Counseling Overweight and Obese Patients About Diet and Exercise

What Was Measured?

The percentage of overweight or obese patients cared for by California medical groups who report they received counseling from their doctor in the last year about eating a healthy diet and/or getting regular exercise.

Why Is It Important?

Over half of all California adults are overweight or obese. Individuals who are overweight and obese are much more prone to developing diabetes and other chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and arthritis. Eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly can help you lose weight and reduce your risk of developing chronic conditions such as diabetes.

What Was the Source?

This data comes from the Patient Assessment Survey (PAS), sponsored by the California Cooperative Health Reporting Initiative (CCHRI).

The information reported here is taken from surveys about patient experiences during 2005.
