Testing Cholesterol for Diabetes Patients

What was measured?

What percentage of HMO members with diabetes had their cholesterol level checked to watch for signs of heart disease.

These results are based on a sample of HMO patient administrative and medical records.

Why is it important?

A big problem for patients with diabetes is heart and blood vessel disease. Checking these patients' cholesterol levels is an important step in finding signs of these diseases early when steps can be taken to avoid them.

Look for differences of at least four percentage points.

Smaller differences are often not significant.
