Heart Attack Medication
What was measured? What percentage of HMO members who had a heart attack received beta blocker drugs after the attack to ease heart pain and help avoid a repeat heart attack or stroke?
These results are based on a sample of HMO patient administative and medical records.
Why is it important? The right care for people who have had a heart attack includes getting medications — like beta blocker drugs — to help avoid a repeat heart attack. These drugs ease how hard the heart has to work-particularly important immediately after the damage of a heart attack.
Look for differences of at least four percentage points.
Smaller differences are often not significant.
