Eye Exam for Diabetes Patients
What was measured? What percentage of HMO patients with diabetes had an eye exam to watch for disease that can lead to blindness?
These results are based on a sample of HMO patient administrative and medical records.
Why is it important?Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness-high blood sugar can cause the blood vessels in the eyes to bleed. Regular eye exams for patients with diabetes are used to find early signs of disease that when treated can avoid blindness.
Look for differences of at least four percentage points.
Smaller differences are often not significant.
