Anti-depressant Medication Ongoing Treatment

What was measured?

What percentage of HMO members who were treated for depression remained on anti-depressant medication for 6 months of ongoing care following their initial treatment?

These results are based on a sample of HMO patient administrative records.

Why is it important?

People with major depression can be effectively treated, often with medicines. However, about half of these patients don't get or continue their treatment completely. Seeing that patients continue using an anti-depressant medication throughout their ongoing care period has proven to be important part of treatment for many patients.

Look for differences of at least four percentage points.

Smaller differences are often not significant.
