Asset Limits

Food stamp households may have up to $2,000 in countable assets. If at least one person is age 60 or older or disabled, the household may have up to $3,000 in countable assets. Individuals who receive CalWORKs or General Relief automatically meet the asset limit.

A household with assets over the limit may qualify for food stamps under the Modified Categorical Eligibility (MCE) program if the household includes a child under 18 years old, and receives TANF services. The worker will explain this program during the interview.

To find out if you may be eligible to receive food stamps, you can complete the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Pre-screening Eligibility Tool
