For more information phone 619-692-5514 or send us an email.

TCRP is a program of Chronic Disease and Health Disparities that works to increase awareness of the health risks of tobacco use and to reduce exposure to second-hand smoke. TCRP also works to counter pro-tobacco influences, reduce tobacco sales to youth under 18 and encourage tobacco users to quit.

About TCRP

In early 1990, the Tobacco Control Resource Program (TCRP) was established to offer tobacco prevention, education and quit smoking programs in San Diego County.

The program was made possible by the passage of Proposition 99 in 1988, which increased the tax on cigarettes by 25 cents per pack. Part of these tobacco tax monies is directed toward statewide health education to inform Californians about the health hazards of tobacco use and exposure to tobacco smoke.

TCRP staff work with various community-based organizations including the American Lung Association, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and many regional, state and locally funded groups and programs. These community partners coordinate efforts to help meet mutual goals to reduce tobacco use and its related illnesses.

California is the national leader in the campaign to address the threat of tobacco. TCRP is proud to be part of this effort and promotes the use of additional web sites as valuable tools to meet the national objective defined in Healthy People 2010, "To reduce illness, disability, and death related to tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke."

To report butts thrown from cars please call the Tobacco Litter Hotline (supported by the Surfrider Foundation) at 877-211-BUTT (877-211-2888).
