Independent Living Skills

For more information phone 866-457-4636. or send us an email.

Independent Living Skills is a program designed to assist 16 to 18 year olds who are in out-of-home placement and are likely to remain there until they can live on their own.

Aftercare services are available to emancipated foster youth up to age 21. Through close interaction with an independent Living Skills social worker and case manager, foster youth are encouraged to develop skills necessary to be successful in living independently. Among those skills are:

  • Making good decisions
  • Home management skill development
  • Financial planning and money management
  • Accessing health and community resources
  • Job readiness and search

Assistance is provided in employment search and is specifically focused on career track jobs. Youth who plan to attend college are assisted with obtaining financial aid. Foster youth are also assisted in finding affordable, safe housing.
