The County of San Diego has been recognized as the top digital county in the nation for jurisdictions with populations over 500,000 by the Center for Digital Counties as well as the National Association of Counties.
The County was also recognized as “Best in Web” for its new Web site, which launched this spring.
The Web site features e-mail subscriptions, video of Board of Supervisors meetings, camping reservations, emergency communication information during a disaster, crime reporting, cell phone emergency notification, job applications and pet adoptions, just to name a few.
“We are always seeking cutting edge technological solutions to help taxpayers do business with the County and to improve our online services,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Greg Cox.
“We would rather have people doing business online, than having them standing in a line.”
The County was judged on many different categories including online service delivery, infrastructure, site architecture and governance models.
The “Best of the Web” award recognizes the most innovative, user-friendly state and local government portals, while the Digital Government Achievement Award recognizes outstanding agency and department Web sites and applications. Judges from all over the nation determined the winners.
