County Probation Department officers conducted 284 person and property searches and made 197 unannounced home visits resulting in 27 arrests of DUI offenders in the month of August through an Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) grant. The operation, “Toward Zero Deaths, Every 1 Counts,” ends Labor Day.

The OTS grant funded overtime for probation officers to carry out additional high profile operations targeting felony DUI probationers. The DUI Enforcement team is responsible for supervising more than 700 offenders.

“This operation achieves our mission of protecting community safety by preventing chronic drunk drivers from getting behind the wheel,” said County Probation Chief Mack Jenkins. “It also shows we will hold DUI offenders accountable and their court orders will be enforced.”

Offenders on probation for DUI felonies are prohibited from consuming any alcohol. They also consent to unannounced warrantless searches from peace officers.

The Probation Department’s DUI Enforcement Team is funded in part by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
