Beach contamination sign

September 17, 2008

The County of San Diego, Department of Environmental Health has issued a water contact closure for personal water craft (PWC) and water ski areas between the east Mission Bay boat dock and Vacation Isle, Ski Beach, as well as swimming beaches at DeAnza Cove, Campland On The Bay, and north Crown Point.

The closure is based upon bacterial results in routine monitoring that coincide with multiple locations where an unknown material was found on Tuesday, September 16th.  The material is suspected to be solid sewage debris and the source is suspected to be illegal dumping in the bay.    Signs warning of sewage contaminated water have been posted at boat launches and the swimming beaches.  Signs will remain in place until field measurements indicate the bay water is safe for recreational use.
