The County Department of Animal Services announced today that its adoption partner Horses of Tir Na Nog, has been selected as the new adoptive owner for Sundance, the neglected, stray horse found in the Potrero area last month.
Sundance, as he has been named by his County caretakers, has recovered considerably after being taken in by Animal Services last month.
“We discovered that he had several problems related to neglect. He was underweight, his hooves needed care and he has some very worrisome ligament problems in his legs,” said John Carlson, Deputy Director of Animal Services. “The veterinarian has determined that the horse’s legs need special care.”
Horses of Tir Na Nog has agreed to provide this care for Sundance. Horses of Tir Na Nog is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the care of horses.
“We appreciate Horses of Tir Na Nog taking on the care of Sundance. As an organization that relies on donations, this is a significant commitment to the animals they accept, “said Carlson.
“While we aren’t sure if the bad economy was the reason this horse was abandoned, it seems that horses are being neglected or abandoned throughout the state and the country.”
